Fertility preservation is the process by which either oocytes (eggs) or sperm undergo an intervention to preserve their use for future attempts at conception. Fertility preservation is considered for patients who may undergo destruction of oocytes (eggs) or sperm leading to infertility. For females, fertility preservation may also be considered to defer reproductive aging. Fertility preservation may also be discussed in women who will be undergoing surgical removal of both ovaries or anticipated chemotherapy for cancer or other medical reasons that may impact future fertility.

In men, cryopreservation (freezing & storage) of sperm is the only proven method of fertility preservation. This frozen sperm is later used to fertilize a woman's egg using in-vitro fertilization (IVF). It can also be injected directly into the woman's uterus, known as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

There are situations where you might wish to preserve your fertility for the future, whatever your reason we're here to help.

IHRโ€™s Fertility Preservation Program delivers hope to men and women who are facing difficult health challenges and social issues.
